$115/mo, $4,200/mo, and $85,000+

$115/mo, $4,200/mo, and $85,000+

Jason:

Hello, friends. Okay. I'm coming at you with an update, and I hope you like the title of this podcast episode because I thought it was kind of fun, I just wanted to touch on these three things. The first overall, thought I wanted to share that maybe a lot of you can resonate with this feeling, but we essentially started this year basically from scratch. I mean, we've with the Vibe coating two project, there's $0 in revenue from anything we did there.

Jason:

And we were essentially sunsetting our coaching business, still showing up for our members every month and still doing some things, sunsetting the selling of it. So the revenue generating part of it was going away. And just to give context of that, basically we averaged making around $35,000 a month with our Wandering Aimfully coaching business, and we turned that off to focus on building software products. That was for a lot of different reasons. We've talked about that in multiple other episodes, so I won't go into it here.

Jason:

But I wanted to share kind of this interesting place where we were at now eight months into the year and how it kind of felt we knew it going to feel this way. That the whole beginning part of this year is just planting seeds. You're trying things, you're experimenting, you're just going out on a limb, and you may not see a lot of revenue from it. And that's really easy to say, you know, at the, like, let's say the beginning of twenty twenty five when we were getting ready to close down our coaching business, but we still had that revenue coming in and it was very consistent. So you didn't feel the pressure necessarily of what you were working on.

Jason:

But then this year, as the months went by, yes, we had some revenue bumps here and there. But basically up until a couple of weeks ago, we had made $30,000 in eight months total. So we went from making basically that every single month to making it in eight total months. That's a very different feeling. And we knew that that was going happen.

Jason:

That was a choice that we made because long term, we think we are going to be able to build that back up, which I'll share more in a second. But the first thing I wanted to share was just to kind of update on where everything is. So SceneRoll, as I mentioned, I think in the last Podcast episode, huge jump in just the features and the quality of that application. And that's all thanks to the Fable five model that came out with Anthropic. And it has just been able to do things that we always dreamed of doing and fix a lot of things.

Jason:

And there's a lot of awesome things that are coming. But that business basically gets zero marketing. And it's really just because we don't have the time to spend doing it. But the thing I wanted to share that's cool is when we launched that business and let's call it February, we did our first launch and we ended up making or maybe March, but we ended up making around $4,000 in that launch. And 150 people bought these credit packs, which is great, but when they're only selling things for like $20, the math does the math that wonderfully.

Jason:

And so that business then basically was selling like one or two packs a week on its own. And then we transitioned it to a subscription model. And the reason why we did that is because it wasn't making enough money with the packs to really matter. And if we could get someone that believed in the product enough to sign up for a subscription, at least that would be some recurring revenue, even if it was a couple of customers or one or two customers a month. That'd be amazing.

Jason:

And where we are now is we actually have, I think, six paying customers and the MRR is essentially up to like 115 a month or something like that. But that is not enough to sustain us. It's not enough for that business to be that valuable. But it's momentum and it's something. And I know that for a lot of you listening, like making your first $100 or whatever, it's a very unique feeling that you kind of don't get again.

Jason:

And it's why, you know, I'll share more about like where Teachery's at in a minute and where Solo Content Studio is. And they're very different in the amount of money that they're making, but SceneRoll feels awesome. Like it feels cool that it's actually making that money and people are enjoying the product. And I think it gives us a sense of pride that we built something that is worth paying for. And so that business doesn't have any time for us to market it, but people still trickle in and find it.

Jason:

And hopefully as kind of we move through these two other projects we're working on, we will find more time to market that business and see it grow that revenue because it is a helpful tool. I'm using it every day now that I'm working on Reels. I think Caroline is using it every day as well. Even just to get the first edit done of our videos, it's really, really helpful because it's so fast. We have this repeated takes feature that's really nice.

Jason:

It just cleans up the whole basically like first cut of your video. But anyway, so that's scene roll. Then I wanna talk about solo content studio and where we have landed with that. I think I mentioned this also in the last video is Caroline is basically taking charge of running that business. So we worked on it together to build it.

Jason:

It was essentially her idea, and then I brought an idea and it cobbled that together. We got a first working version. We sold it as a cohort. So it had like a live kickoff call. It had two months of access.

Jason:

It had a community inside of it. And basically the idea was like, hey, we'll be there with you to help us grow this product. And you get to kind of be first users of it and kind of like founding members in a certain way. And that because we sold that at $300 or $400 and there was a two week window, you only need 20 or 30 customers to make meaningful money with that. And we ended up with 40 customers, and we've talked about that number before.

Jason:

But the interesting thing is then those customers had the option towards the end of the two months to continue paying for the app and to continue to get value from it. And they could have all canceled and they could have all said no. But the really cool thing is, is that like, I think it was 28 people essentially stayed on paying for the app at the full price of $99 a month. And that is really awesome because that basically trickled in. Well, even before that, we had some people trickle in with free trials and then signing up for the $99 per month plan.

Jason:

So we made our first like $500 in recurring revenue after the cohort was done from new trials and new people finding it. And that felt really good. But then we knew we had this whole group of people that were going to convert and were going to drive more revenue into the business. And so those did. And then we had some morning infinity members who had the option to pay for discounted rate for a year that's locked in.

Jason:

Where that has gotten us is as of today, Solo Content Studio is at $4,000 I think, 200 in recurring revenue a month. So $4,200 in recurring revenue a month. And it's amazing. I mean, feels great to go from a thing where this idea just basically came to us in April and now we're in August and that getting a business from zero existence to $4,000 in recurring revenue in just four months is really, really awesome. And I think Caroline shared a stat with me that was like, it's like 90% of new software businesses don't even get to $1,000 recurring revenue in six months.

Jason:

And some don't even get to like $2,000 revenue in twelve months. And so the fact that we've gotten it there is a huge testament to all the hard work that Caroline's done in making the product great. It's a huge, huge pat on the back to her for all the growth that she's had on Instagram with growing the new solo content studio account because that's also a whole thing she's taken on and that's been the marketing funnel for that business. And it has worked really well. And so the combination of all of that has really proved to be something really inspiring for us.

Jason:

Because like I said, know, SceneRoll is not going pay the bills and the $4,000 a month for us and for our living expenses and our goals, it doesn't meet our needs, but it's a gigantic step toward where we want that business to be and where we believe it can be. And just to share some goals with you, Scene Roll, we have no financial goals because we just don't have time to market it. So it's not really fair to put financial goals on it. But for Solo Content Studio, our low goal by the end of the year, so with basically three and a half months left in the year, I think we set the low goal of $6,000 in recurring revenue. We are assuming that we are going to have decently, not high churn, but I would say I wouldn't be surprised if the next couple of months we average like a 10% to 20% churn just because the product is new.

Jason:

People are always excited to sign up for a thing and then like, oh, I don't use this or whatever. So I think we are going to see that. So we're going to probably see a little dip and then hopefully things will go back up, but the marketing is continuing. So that's why we believe that the revenue will go up. So low goal is $6,000 a month by the end of the year.

Jason:

And then our high goal would be $10,000 a month by the end of the year. And we think that those things are actually achievable. We will find out and we will share some updates. Again, sharing most consistently on our Growing Steady newsletter. You can find that at wandering aimfully or vybecoating.

Jason:

Two. It's the same newsletter. And so that's SCENE role. And so very proud of that. And just Caroline has an insane amount of ideas for that application.

Jason:

So if you are trying to have your content created for your business, I would absolutely check out Solo Content Studio and see if it can help you, especially with the new VoiceDNA feature. It really does do a good job of honing in on your voice and not sounding like Claude or GPT wrote these things. Does sound, I would say, like 85% like you if you give it the full training, which is pretty incredible. Okay, so let's get to Teachery. And this is, man, I just, first of all, I'm very excited.

Jason:

The most excited I've been about Teachery and like what can come of it and what it's going to be. I'm also very nervous because this is the biggest rebuild I have ever done on an application and literally no one has used it yet except for me. So there's so much that has to be tested and done. But we are at the place where I'm not going to bore you with all the technical details, but essentially I brought this developer back that I'd worked with for a long time, who's a Ruby on Rails developer, very talented and knows things in and out. But essentially from my vibe coded version of Teachery 4.0 to the Claude version that I was working on, he basically came in and said, okay, none of this will work because it's basically gonna put you back in the same situation you have with current Teachery.

Jason:

So we have to rebuild it. We have to rebuild everything that you've built from scratch, which was a little bit upsetting because I have already spent like six months of effort on this. But I understood and I wanted to follow his lead because I wanted a platform that's stable for the thousands of users that we have, not to mention over a million customers now, like student customers, use Teachery and have purchased courses from creators, which is cool. But we he basically has set up what's called an AI harness. And again, not gonna bore you with the details, but it's just kind of this wild way of working where you're just sending Claude these short things and you're saying like, hey, I have an issue with this.

Jason:

The UI doesn't match for these buttons or the way that this new feature of quizzes is set up, doesn't make sense. You need to like figure out like how to fix it. And sometimes you can be that general. Sometimes you have to be very specific, but it has been a whole new way of working and building. And so where I would say we are at right this moment is the platform is about 70% rebuilt and meaning that like probably almost all the features are in, we're going to add in a tagging feature because a lot of customers have requested that.

Jason:

And so like when you create a checkout page, when someone buys that thing, you'll set a tag on that user and then that tag can create some automations within Teachery to add that person to a specific course. Add that to a course, but only show a certain amount of lessons to that user. Add them to a membership, but only certain things within that membership. Add them to a course, a membership, a community, like all of it at once. So there's some really interesting things with that.

Jason:

But anyway, stay there for another day. So 70% of the way done, the next 30% has always been the hardest when you're building a software platform, software company. And it's because you have all the edge cases, have all the testing, you have all the tweaking, you have all the stuff that's really hard that takes a lot of human effort to do. We're still going to have to do that. However, it is a lot easier with the kind of like AI harness of it all because it basically feels like the two of us have like 100 other people that are working on this at any time.

Jason:

And the limit is only basically like what we can keep up with, which is kind of crazy. So what would normally take probably like a three to six months process to get this like last 30% done, I really firmly believe that my goal is by September 1, are only focusing on this last 30% and that we will be able to do that in the month of September. Now, obviously we'll run into bugs, we'll run into issues, it's not going be perfect, but I really think that we're in a good place and we're both kind of a little bit surprised with how things are going. Okay. I just got a notification on my phone and it's that someone bought the lifetime deal for Teachery for $550 And as of recording this, we have two and a half days left of the retirement of our lifetime $550 price.

Jason:

And so this price has served us extremely well since the beginning of twenty twenty four when we decided to bring our lifetime deal back. And it has basically been the thing having a lifetime deal that has sustained Teachery in its current iteration. And the churn of Teachery was starting to get really high. We went from basically like $15,000 in recurring revenue down to like $5,000 in recurring revenue. And luckily I saw that coming.

Jason:

I think we brought the lifetime deal on when we got down to like $11,000 And the reason why I didn't fight super hard to basically redo the product and kind of like save existing features because I knew that the existing platform really wasn't savable. And so that wasn't really an option. And so the lifetime deal basically felt like a bridge to get us back to a product that would be fully rebuilt, that could be sold on a recurring basis without a lifetime deal that is worth paying for. And I do believe that's what we have with Teachery 4.0. So this kind of ending of the lifetime deal here we're doing in stages.

Jason:

So as of right now, there's this $550 price we've had for a while that is going to go away. It does get everyone access to Teachery 4.0. But once that goes away, then we'll have a founding price, which is just kind of like marketing it as a founding price. You'll get first access to the platform when it's ready. That's gonna be $750 And then we will do a lifetime deal for a little while at $950 And I don't know how long we will do that for.

Jason:

Basically, we'll kind of pressure test and see what kind of signups that gets, but the monthly and annual prices are going to go up as well with Teachery 4.0 because it's just going be worth it having communities, memberships, all these post order offer bumps, the tagging, all this other amazing technology and just the platform being so much more easy to use and design customizations and all that. But anyway, numbers are what I wanted to share. Again, there's just so much to unpack. So forgive me if I'm bouncing all over the place. But it was basically like a month ago when we started to make the push for this last $550 ability to buy that at that price for the lifetime deal.

Jason:

And so I set up this leaderboard for our affiliates. We could have some prize pools and we could kind of unlock those at certain numbers. And as of recording this, I think that sale that just came through, it unlocked the third prize pool for our affiliates, meaning there's a 100 sales that have come from our affiliates. It was 25, fifty, one hundred and two hundred were the prize pool numbers, the amount of sales. And so that one just unlocked the third prize pool.

Jason:

And yesterday alone, we had 28 total sales. I think 22 came from affiliates. And that's incredible. I mean, that is the highest day of sales we've had since basically like Black Friday deal that we did last year. And then all in, since starting this push a month ago, we have generated, I think it's $85,000 in lifetime deal sales for Teachery, which is really amazing for us because it is a huge financial bridge to help us gap here.

Jason:

Well, you know, the revenue hasn't been exploding in our other products. And it's really helpful because we're also going to need that money for migration efforts and kind of helping people move over from current Teachery to Teachery 4.0. I just think we're going to need some more handholding than myself and Sada, who's our ops person, can do. That's So also going to help with that money. While that money is great and I do think there's a chance that maybe by the end of this we might clear $100,000 in total sales of the lifetime deal at this price, We're really gonna need that money to invest in making the transition smooth, being able to basically host two platforms at the same time because existing Teachery will be up for like six months.

Jason:

But I wanna just take a moment to share that is like a pretty cool milestone for Teachery to make this sizable amount of income on a platform that was basically going in the wrong direction financially. But to have people believe in what I'm trying to build and what I see with Teachery 4.0 and what I want to have exist and what I've wanted to have exist for years, I just haven't been able to. I can't wait to get that in everyone's hands. So yeah, that's the update. Just wanted to share that so many numbers and things to throw at you here, but I just thought it was probably interesting to hear in this eight months, we've gone from the beginning of the year where it just felt like we have no idea what we're going to do.

Jason:

We don't know what the products are To now it feels like we have like three really strong products that we're excited about. One, we don't have time to market. One, Caroline's full time building and marketing. One, I'm full time building and marketing. That's a gigantic project.

Jason:

And to actually see some fruits of our labor come through, I'm really excited in this moment and it does give us a ton of just inspiration, I think, and momentum to keep working on these things and to really appreciate the fact that we have been working a lot of later nights now that we have a kid, like we have to fit in the time when we can. And so, you know, we do most often, you know, work for two to three hours a night because it's the only additional uninterrupted time throughout the day, even though we have some help, just, your time gets broken up so much more. So we have so much empathy for other parents who continue to build and work on their own things. Now we know the struggle and we know it's only going to get harder from here as Leon starting to walk and do more things. We're going have even less time probably.

Jason:

But okay, that is the update I wanted to share. If you're currently listening to this and you listen this far and you've been considering the Teachery Lifetime deal, I would highly recommend it. It's the best price you're ever gonna see for getting access to Teachery 4.0 and never having to pay for it again and all the things that can come with it. There's no upgrades or hidden fees you're gonna have to pay to get all the features. You're just gonna get an amazing deal.

Jason:

And that's kind of the reward for kind of taking a chance on a platform you can't even use yet, but you just believe in the vision of myself, really. Okay. That's it. I'm gonna go have lunch, and hope you enjoyed this little update.
